Three Reasons For Not Spending the "Golden Years" In Idaho Falls

This was one storm that brought a thick layer of wet snow. To move all of it took hours, and we used the eight horse snowblower we had at the time to get most of it from the driveway and front walks. Still we had to use a shovel to get at the four to six foot drift that was in front of the house.

The worst part is that it is not the worst storm we saw here. When Cles was in Japan, drifts were even with the top of the fence in the back yard, and somewhere we have a picture with my English Springer looking into the next yard atop one.

The snow in the back shows eight to ten inches from one storm, which is not a lot when you think about it, but the high winds made it more miserable. Some spots had deep drifts that made it impossible to drive through until road crews took care of it.

There is, however, a silver lining: snow days at school. However, at the time I worked for a great district in Jefferson County. Whenever my students asked me when we would get a snow day, I would tell them this: "When both Buttes erupt at the same time to the tune of Yankie Doodle Dandy."

The Buttes were two large cone-like vents that formed thousands of years ago during volcanic activity in the area. By the way, my students never thought it was funny. It did put the whole snow day thing in perspective. There had to be very harsh weather to get a day off due to weather there.

This is a great picture of our new VW bug blanketed with snow in the driveway.
