Stephen Crane uses figurative language in his work The Red Badge of Courage to describe soldiers slain in battle. One similie that appears repeatedly is where he describes the fallen "as if dropped from high altitudes."If Crane had ever seen Anna asleep in her booster seat, and if he had chosen to write a short story about Pop Pop's little princess, he would have used the same writer's tool.
