When Anna first learned to walk, she took some early steps on one of those trips we made to Ontario. Ann, Jack and I would drive from early in the morning hoping to get to California at a reasonable hour. Jeff had rounds at a hospital in Chino. The doctor in charge was the "Prince of Darkness." He was the worst of what humanity has to offer, the kind of person you hope gets stranded alone in a part of Borneo where aboriginal people are starving. Jeff was magnificent during the ordeal. Our trip from Idaho would end often late at night. Lydia would stand in front of her apartment, Anna in her arms and Tommy in hand. When Tommy noticed the car, he would start bouncing up an down. Jack would start squealing behind us. The boys still remain best friends. The first steps we saw were in the picture. Anna would walk with her arms flailing above her head, must like the orangutan in the Clint Eastwood movie.
It was so cute the way she would walk. We took pictures every time we saw her do it. And during that time, many of the pictures, like this one at Brother Bear in the California Adventure Park at Disney, were of Anna taking those steps.

I read this post with Anna on my lap, and she was very excited to see her baby pictures. She also noticed the slideshow next to the post with old pictures of mom when she was a girl. There's a picture of mom on the porch with her family, and she's wearing a dotted dress with mary ashley shoes. Anna squealed and said grandma is wearing "such a pretty dress with such cute shoes." Only Anna would have that quick of an eye when it comes to shoes and dresses.
Oh good grief!
