When I'm Not There, I Look At These Pictures

Looking at these pictures reminds me why I enjoy the 18 hour drive to visit my grandchildren. I visit Lydia and Jeff too, but there is something magical about grandchildren. They saw things that make you smile, because life is still full of wonder for them. They enjoy every minute, every waking moment.

Whether it is about Jack and Tommy in the back yard catching frogs or about Anna finding and stashing interesting rocks in different places in the house, each day is fun. It always begins with Anna standing in the doorway of the room where we sleep. She watches us for a minute before stepping so quietly back up the stairs to her mom's room. She did it every morning.

On our last trip she finally realized that our visits end as quickly as they begin. Four or five days or even ten days go by so quickly, yet it was watching Anna catch a first glimpse of my Annie that made me smile. Lydia called us to say she was shopping.

We stopped and entered the store as quickly as possible. "Grandma!" Anna shouted out loud and ran with those graceful hops she makes while clapping her hands.
